Highest Court
The highest court in Nevada is the Supreme Court of Nevada. The Supreme Court consists of 7 justices. It has jurisdiction over (1) Appellate jurisdiction over equity, law (over $300), and all other civil not given to a lower court, and questions of law in criminal cases of District Court. (2) Certiorari review of cases originating in Justice and Municipal Courts and appealed to District Court.
General Courts
District Court
The District Court consists of 56
judges. It has jurisdiction over (1) Original jurisdiction in equity law,
probate, mentally ill. (2) Felonies, gross misdemeanors (fine greater than
$1000, sentence greater than 6 months). (3) Juvenile, adults in relation
to juveniles.
Appeals are trial de novo.
Jury trials
Limited Courts
Justice Court
The Justice Courts consists of 67
judges. It has jurisdiction over (1) Civil actions under 7,500 except
title realty or mining claim. (2) Misdemeanors with fine under $1,000 and/or
sentences under 6 months. (3) Small claims under $5,500.
No jury trials are overseen by this
court.
Municipal Court
The Municipal Court consists of
29 judges. It has jurisdiction over (1) Civil when less than $2,500 and
incident to a criminal case and the plaintiff is the city. (2) Municipal
ordinance violations. (3) Municipal ordinances, misdemeanors with fine
under $2,500 and/or sentence under 6 months.
No jury trials are overseen by this court.

In the case of war, pestilence,
other public calamity, the dangers thereof, or the destruction of the building
appointed for court, the judge by an order filed with the county clerk
moved court to another place in the same city or county. (NRS 1.070)
Electronic filing, storage and
reproduction of documents filed with courts
The Supreme Court may adopt rules
to provide for the electronic filing, storage, and reproduction of documents
filed with the courts of justice. Any rules adopted by the Supreme
Court regarding the above documentation may be used be each court of justice.

Courts required to have seals
The Supreme Court, The District
Courts, the Justices' Courts, municipal courts, and all other courts designated
as courts of record pursuant to NRS 5.010 shall have a seal. (NRS
1.140)
List of cases submitted to be
published monthly by Clerk
On or before the 5th day of each
calendar month, the Clerk of the Supreme Court shall publish a list of
all Supreme Court cases that have remained undecided for a period of more
than 90 days. The cases shall be published in a newspaper advertising
for the State. The date of original submission, the dates of any
orders of resubmission, the number of the case, and enough of the title
to identify the case shall be published. (NRS 2.260)
Hours of use by public
The hours that the Supreme Court
Law Library is available to the public shall be decided by the Supreme
Court. (NRS 2.420)
Training concerning complex issues
of medical malpractice litigation.
Due to the complex issues of medical
malpractice litigation, the Supreme Court shall provide by court rule required
training to each district judge involved in medical malpractice cases.

Discharge of excess trial jurors
When there are more trial jurors
in attendance than needed for the business of the court, those that have
served longest may be discharged or excused temporarily to reduce the panel
to the number required. (NRS 6.100)
